WABetainfo has been dropping a series of screenshots lately with different WhatsApp features. These screenshots include features such as Allowing Search by Date, Redesigned Storage Usage section, Option to keep starred content, ShareChat integration, New message bubble color in dark mode.
These features are expected to arrive WhatsApp anytime soon as it seems to be in progress already. Although, the date or platform to get the updates first remains undisclosed at the moment. However, the features where breakdown on the blog post posted on WABetainfo on how the features work.
Redesigned Storage Usage
Reports made it known that WhatsApp will receive a redesigned Storage Usage. Meanwhile, the new redesign is under development at the moment, and it is claimed to come with a Large file option to let you view files that are of large size.
Awesomely, there will also be a Forwarded files option in the Storage Usage section to help you identify all the files that you’ve forwarded on the messaging app. Still remains unknown, we are expecting something like a new sort option. This unidentified option will work in a way whereby it will sort photos in Newest, Oldest, and Size orders to let you easily pick which photos you want to keep or delete.
Allowing Search by Date
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on the new Search by date feature that will allow users to search a message of a particular date. This simply means that users will now be able to filter out results base on dates.
WABetaInfo screenshots show that a Calendar icon would be available just above the keyboard when using the Chat Search option on the WhatsApp for iPhone to let you search for a message of a specific date.
Tapping on the calendar icon will bring out the date picker would for the user to select any month, date, and year. Android users are also likely to receive the new feature through the Search option in the chat window. It is not yet clear if the new search by date feature will be universal to all chats/ group or only for in-chat searches.
Another amazing feature posted by WABetainfo was the upcoming ShareChat feature. They explained that WhatsApp will now have a dedicated player for ShareChat videos.
It was spotted on one of the screenshots shared by WABetainfo, they move ahead to elaborate that there will also be a Picture-in-Picture (PiP) option for videos shared on WhatsApp from ShareChat.
New Message Bubble Colour in Dark Mode
The report also draws our attention as it touts that WhatsApp is working on a new color for message bubbles when switching to the dark mode. A screenshot shared by WABetaInfo shows that there would be a subtle change that would help reduce eye strain for users accessing WhatsApp in a low-light environment.
Option to keep Starred Content
WhatsApp is also working on an upgraded Delete messages option According to WABetainfo, that would let you delete all messages except the starred ones. A screenshot of an iPhone running the WhatsApp update shows that a Delete all except starred option would be available alongside the existing Delete all messages option.
Similarly, the Storage Usage section would include a Clear except starred option to let you keep all the starred message content while deleting documents, photos, videos, and voice messages all at once. The screenshot was run on iPhone, however, we expect something similar to come to the Android version of the app.
