Stand a chance to win up to $50,000 from Sony when you report a Bug. Sony has made the bug bounty program for the PlayStation 4 console and the PlayStation Network public to everyone to participate. The reward program has been ongoing for a while now initially closed to researchers only, However, it is now public for everybody to participate around the globe, irrespective of your country.
The bug bounty is a reward system for researchers or whoever finds a bug in Sony’s PlayStation related devices and reports it to the company, so it will help them patch it for better experience and security.
A blog post from the company highlight that the bounty program is being managed through Hackerone, which is known for hosting such programs for other large companies. Moreover, the price to be rewarded for each bug found in any of the PlayStation related devices is different. Below is the prices as was posted by the company.
- Low-risk bugs – $100 (roughly N39,000)
- Medium-risk bugs – $400 (roughly N156,000)
- High-risk bugs – $1,000 (roughly N390,000)
- Critical bugs – $3,000 (roughly N1.170 million)
- Low-risk bugs – $500 (roughly N195,000)
- Medium-risk bugs – $2,500 (roughly N975,000)
- High-risk bugs – $10,000 (roughly N3.9 million)
- Critical bugs – $50,000 (roughly N19.5 million)
More light being thrown noted that the bugs can be related to the PlayStation operating system and its accessories. On the side of the operating system, it includes the currently released or beta version of system software.
According to Sony, “We believe that through working with the security research community we can deliver a safer place to play. We have partnered with HackerOne to help run this program, and we are inviting the security research community, gamers, and anyone else to test the security of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Network”.
