After all the predictions, leaks, and rumors, MIUI 12 has gone official. The Xiaomi’s Custom UI appears with a lot of improved and add new features. This, however was announced alongside the Mi 10 Youth Edition 5G.
The new software overlay comes with a new UI, a slide of new animations, and privacy improvements. A lot of new interesting live wallpapers have been added, and the Always-on Display feature now comes with several new options to choose from. New privacy-related features like Flare, Barbed Wire, and Mask System have arrived with MIUI 12, and the multi-window has been improved as well.

New Privacy features
The primary goal of every successful business is to keep users’ data private. Xiaomi has stepped up to meet the demand on the new MIUI 12 UI. Xiaomi tout that the MIUI 12 has cleared the ‘Android Enhanced Privacy Protection Test’ done by TÜV Rheinland. There is also a new feature called Flare, these essentially keeps a tab on all the Apps you give permissions, and alert user when these apps start making use of camera or GPS.
The new Barbed Wire feature enables the user to grant permission to apps for a specified amount of time. It will allow users to enable permissions for apps only once, every time, or reject at all times. There’s also a new Mask System feature that prevents apps from accessing information like IMEI, calendar, call logs, and more.
New interface features
Beatification is also needed, although the previous MIUI 11 looks cool, however MIUI 12 arrives with improved interface experience, as well as added features that make it worth being the successor of MIUI 11.
MIUI 12 comes with a more admiring and more simplified interface than before. It brings a bright white background that highlights the text better, along with wider spacing between text. There’s also a bunch of added graphics and visuals complimenting the text, to make understanding for the viewer a lot easier.
The interface also brings changes to screen rotation, app launch, and close, and even rearranging icons on the home screen. Also, it brings new Android 10-like navigation gestures.
The appearance of new live wallpapers that feature the Mars and Earth was spotted. Xiaomi used Mars exploration data to make high-precision 3D Martian land-forms for these wallpapers. Awesomely, the planet also enters the night when you switch Dark Mode. MIUI 12 also gets a more optimized multi-window feature and floating chat window support for full-screen apps.
Other new features
Xiaomi pushed out the MIUI 12 with new health features that allow for recording steps and other activity without taking drilling your battery. AI Calling feature was also spotted, it transcribe the conversation in real-time to help use other response techniques. This was to help those with hearing or vocal disabilities.
Devices to Receive MIUI 12 Update
We mapped out a list of devices to receive the MIUI 12 Update months ago, surprisingly, it seems to be identical with the list published by Xiaomi today. A lot of old devices are eligible. However, the phones to receive the update first batch are Mi 10 Pro, Mi 10, Mi 9 Pro 5G, Mi 9, Redmi K30 Pro, Redmi K30, Redmi K20 Pro, and Redmi K20.
MIUI 12 Rollout Date
The Chinese Electronic company Xiaomi has announced the rollout schedule for MIUI 12 in China. The rollout will begin for the first batch at the end of June, and the timelines for the second and third batch is yet to be announced.
